Sick of Chasing Symptoms? Ready to Heal?

We all know that if we get a cut on our skin, we should clean the wound, we might put on some antibiotic ointment, if it’s more serious we might go to the ER, but there is a natural process of healing that happens in our bodies where new cells are generated and the wound closes even if we’re left with a scar.

What happens when the injuries we suffer are not only physical? When they’re emotional, cognitive, psychological, relational, or spiritual? What are the scars left then? What are we supposed to do to support our natural healing process?

In our culture, when it comes to mental and physical health, we often chase symptoms. Sleep issues? There’s a pill for that. Anxiety, there’s a pill for that too. Feel like your life sucks? Maybe you drink too much, or exercise too much? What happens when you stop taking those pills, or drinking, or running? Do your symptoms return? Well, then you’re not healed.

“We are chasing symptoms, not healing people.” -Dr. Bruce Perry, What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing

What is healing?

Healing is integration and resolution of symptoms (not only relief). When you heal, you grow. Psychotherapy and counseling support adaptive growth. They encourage integration and healing through presence, psychoeducation, skill development, insight, and by applying neurologically based, body-brain treatments such as EMDR and BRAINSPOTTING.

Coriander Living Collective is not in the business of chasing symptoms, we’re in the business of undercovering the root cause of your symptoms to create lasting change. We’re here to guide you along the path of harnessing your own natural healing abilities. Contact us! Cori Hildebrandt, MA, LPCC MN, LPC is a certified EMDR and Brainspotting therapist, and Stephanie Larson, MSW, LICSW MN, LCSW WI is an EMDR and Brainspotting therapist.
